Learn how to make hash at home

Do you want to learn how to make hash at home? Hash ranges in consistency and appearance, from malleable to brittle, and from a yellow-golden color to black. Hash has been consumed for centuries in places like Morocco, Lebanon, and India. Let’s learn how to make hash at home!

What is hashish?

Hash, or hashish, is a floral resin derived from the buds of female cannabis plants. Hash is composed of purified or compressed trichomes, which are the cannabinoid rich hairs on cannabis, as well as various plant compounds. As hash is derived from cannabis, it shares the same psychoactive properties as marijuana. Hash can be consumed through oral ingestion or inhalation. Let’s learn how to make hash at home. We will discuss the easiest way to make hash, and touch on grinder hash, blonde hash, dry ice hash, how to make hash from kief, and how to make bubble hash.

How to make hash

Hash is formed by compressing trichomes into a substance that can be smoked, dabbed, vaporized, or made into edibles. When you are making hash, you want to avoid using low quality weed or cannabis that contains a lot of contaminants. Using moldy weed in your hash press, using immature plants, or using plants with little to no developed trichomes can lead to low quality hash. We promised we’d teach you the easiest way to make hash at home. The easiest way to make hash only has five steps. This traditional way to make hash can be time consuming but takes very little tools, no hash press, and just your elbow grease. You’ll need sticky, untrimmed bud, parchment paper and extremely clean hands or latex gloves. Here’s how to make hashish:

  1. Wash your hands with non-perfumed soap or a vegan soap to reduce the chance of contaminants getting into your hashish.
  2. Take your bud and remove all leaves and stems.
  3. Place the flower between your palms and roll in a circular motion. You can also use one palm and the table to roll your flower. This works best with a semi-firm touch.
  4. Once the resin has been forming in your hands for about 10-15 minutes, scrape your hands clean of resin and place it on some clean parchment paper.
  5. Repeat as necessary until you have a small block or ball of hashish, press all the resin together in a ball and store in a cool, dry place.

This is the easiest way to make hash at home. A good indicator that you’ve done it right is the color! If it’s brown, gold, red or even a murky white – you’ve made good quality hash! If your hashish is more on the green side, it may have a large amount of plant matter and be lower quality.

How to make hash from kief

Did you know you can make hash from kief? Kief, also spelled “keef,” is the leftover cannabis trichomes that you harvest by grinding your weed. All you need for this method is a 3-chamber grinder that separates unground flower, ground flower, and kief. This method is great if you find yourself grinding a large amount of flower since it takes around an ounce of marijuana to create 1-3 grams of kief. If you want to take it a step further, you can also put your kief in a hash press, which is a highly pressurized machine that flattens and compacts your kief into hashish. You can buy a hand-crank hash press to turn your kief into grinder hash.
